The FBI director, 45, heads the nation's top law enforcement agency.

He directs 37,000 personnel across fifty-five regional divisions, as well as three hundred and fifty smaller outposts and sixty-plus overseas bases.

Patel ascended rapidly within the former president's inner circle subsequent to being hired as a security advisor in 2019, and in 2020 was appointed chief of staff to the head of the Pentagon.

Patel, the son of Indian immigrants, is a ex-defense attorney and government attorney.

During Senate hearings, the director disputed maintaining a list of so-called bureaucratic opponents, and downplaying contentious comments from his past, such as calling investigators who probed Trump as "corrupt actors".

The publication titled Government Gangsters, issued in 2023, Patel called for a removal of what he described as "government tyranny" inside the FBI by firing "the top ranks".
