Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was understandable for doubts to be raised about his position after a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the club's worst run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got significant support from above,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory obviously but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that people question you.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “Through standard exchanges I perceive the trust. However I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Reaction
The manager highlighted familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side going through a phase of this nature with performances so bad.”
He stated, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
